About Magazine Luiza

When Pelegrino JosƩ Donato and Luiza Trajano Donato bought a gift shop in Franca/SP in 1957, the story of Magazine Luiza officially began. A contest was held on a local radio station where listeners could submit suggestions for the name of the store, which gave rise to the Magazine Luiza retail chain. The store got its name because its founder, Luiza Donato, excelled in sales and was much loved in the city.

Magazine Luiza changed its name to Magalu in 2018 and since then has been strongly positioning itself as a broad marketplace digital. The company currently has more than fifteen hundred physical stores spread across more than eight hundred cities in twenty-one Brazilian states, and is a national benchmark in the segment in which it operates.
