About Carrefour
Brazil is the destination of the first Carrefour store on the American continent, since this supermarket chain was founded in France 33 years ago. Today, the company has headquarters in forty countries. With the launch of new stores and the acquisition of regional chains such as AtacadĆ£o, PlanaltĆ£o, Continente, Roncetti, Eldorado, MineirĆ£o, Big, Rainha and Dallas. The network continues to expand, making Carrefour one of the largest retailers in the country.
The battle for leadership in retail is fierce, but with the acquisition of the AtacadĆ£o chain, it was announced that the Carrefour Group would be the leader. Its biggest competitors are GPA and Cencosud, which entered the fray by acquiring the GBbarbosa, Mercantil Rodrigues, Perini, Bretas and Prezunic chains.
The company discontinued its e-commerce sales operations on December 7, 2012, citing the restructuring of the group in Brazil. On July 26, 2016 (after 4 years of inactivity), the company returned to e-commerce sales, starting only in the southeast region of Brazil. Currently, the company sells non-food products such as electronics, household appliances, furniture and other durable goods through its official website and delivers throughout Brazil.
