About SBT

SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão) is one of Brazil's largest telecommunications networks, founded in 1981 by Silvio Santos. The company emerged from a competition made by the Federal Government between two broadcasters, the winner of which was SBT. 

The company is currently considered the third most watched in Brazil and is among the world's leading broadcasters. For much of its history, it has led the audience in several regions. 

The network broadcasts the widest range of production genres in its line-up, with its own productions usually featuring alongside entertainment. Foreign programming makes up part of its schedule, mainly telenovelas produced by networks affiliated with the Mexican media conglomerate Televisa.

SBT took advantage of a series of programs from the defunct Rede Tupi in its first months on the air. Auditorium programs were Silvio Santos' passion, and so he established a tradition of this format on the network. 

The network's oldest program is Programa Silvio Santos, which has been around since the year the presenter began his television career. The program has had around 100 programs presented by Silvio Santos over the years and is still considered one of the best entertainment programs on free-to-air TV.
